Hey there, I am Heather, a northern California Wedding and Portrait Photographer. As I started taking on weddings this year, I had the honor to second shoot a timeless Irongate Garden Inn wedding with another local photographer. Starting out one thing that you can do is second shoot with other wedding photographers. This will help grow content for your portfolios and you are able to learn and really decide if weddings are for you. As a photographer there are a number of different niches you can choose to focus on.
As a second shooter you are typically shooting the groom and groomsmen getting ready, while the lead photographer is photographing the bride and bridesmaids. Getting ready photos can be so much fun, because it is more of a relaxed environment before the rush of the rest of the wedding day.
I wish all my couples would do a first look. It actually provides you with more images on your wedding day. It is a special moment between the two of you without anyone around. I know many don’t want the other person to see them until they walk down the aisle, but let me tell you, it will be just as special. It almost makes it even more emotional since nerves are not as high.
As a second shooter you are getting photos from multiple different angles. The rest of this day was a dream. From the ceremony to sunset the images glow. The day was one of the hottest days of the year, but it still was beautiful and couple have been a more perfect day.
If you are getting into weddings I highly suggest getting into some second shooter opportunities if you can. It is a great way to learn more about being the lead photographer. Find out more on how I can be your wedding photographer here!
